Chakras are located throughout your body. The seven primary ones in your body are the Root, Sacral, Solar Plexus, Heart, Throat, 3rd Eye and Crown Chakras.
They are spinning energy bodies that act like mini-processors in your body. Each receives and communicates information to and from the organs in its vicinity with the rest of the energy system in your body.
An imbalance in the Root Chakra may manifest itself in
your life, physically and emotionally.
Function of Root Chakra
The Root Chakra is located at the base of the spine/pelvic floor & the 1st three vertebrae. It manages your hips, feet, large intestine, colon and immune system.
The Root Chakra’s Truth is “All is One.”
It is your tribal/ancestral database where all of your programming/superstitions, sociologic attitudes & beliefs, time & space limitations, victim consciousness (society should take care of me, I’m not personally responsible) are located. It is here where our sacred rituals and our group mentality are defined.
For example, if your tribal beliefs about money are a scarcity mentality, there’s never enough or a belief that money is the root of all evil or that those with money are terrible people, you may be blocking financial abundance from your life and from your business.
The Root Chakra’s Impact on Life & Business
Since this Chakra is group or tribal based it’s all about committee decisions and group mentality. Think government, armed services, religions, school systems, etc. Change takes a very, very long time.
When you have a blockage or an imbalance in this Chakra it is difficult to move forward in your life or in your business. You may have that uncomfortable feeling of being ungrounded. If you are tied to what family or society will think or react to when you decide to make changes, you will hit your fear “comfort zone” or boundary and be stopped in your tracks, unable to move forward for fear of what the tribe or society will think.
The Root Chakra is responsible for our sense of safety and security. Your feelings of safety and security as an adult have been greatly impacted by how safe you felt as a small child.
Root Chakra development in childhood create our feelings of trust vs. mistrust.
This Chakra consists of what grounds you to stability in your life, such as the basic needs for food, water, shelter and safety. It impacts our emotional needs as well, like letting go of fear.
If your needs are met, you feel grounded and safe. If you are struggling with feeling safe or meeting your needs in your life or your business it may indicate a blockage or imbalance in your root Chakra.
Fear keeps you from moving forward. When your Root Chakra is out of balance, you may be more comfortable with the excruciatingly slow progress of the group because like many humans, you really don’t like change. You succumb to the fear and continue your groundhog day like existence. Everything pretty much stays the same. Where is the fun in that?
Embracing change and getting comfortable with uncertainty is where growth lies. It’s hard and doesn’t always feel good. In fact, it can get pretty uncomfortable. If you ever took a chance on say, starting your own business you know what I’m talking about.
But…Moving past your fear and constantly pushing the self-imposed boundaries of your comfort zone is the only way to grow in your personal life and in your business. It brings out your creativity, which connects you to your higher power. It is not easy, but oh my, it is so worth it!
Physical Ailments Associated with an Unbalanced or Blocked Root Chakra
All diseases begin below the waist where the lower (below the heart) Chakras reside. This is because the lower Chakras tie us to the physical world as opposed to the upper Chakras connection to the spiritual realm.
Those with imbalances in their root Chakra may experience anxiety disorders, fears or nightmares. There may be problems with their colon, bladder, with elimination (fear of “letting go”) or lower back, leg or feet (fear of moving forward) issues. Prostate problems may occur.
Eating disorders and auto-immune diseases may be a sign of a Root Chakra imbalance.
Epidemics and tribal disorder originate from the Root Chakra.
Balancing the Root Chakra
Balancing the Root Chakra is essential to creating a solid foundation for opening the Chakras above. A solid foundation, like you need when building a home, will provide the stability you need to create a life filled with joy.
The Root Chakra connects us not only to our tribes/families, but to Mother Earth as well. The phrases getting grounded or keeping my feet on the ground are metaphors for balancing this Chakra.
One of the many ways to bring balance to your Root Chakra is to walk barefoot on a beach or on the grass or soil and to feel and be filled with gratitude for each step you take on the Earth. Feel your “roots” emerging from your feet and into the earth. Stabilizing you, grounding you. This will reconnect you with the source of your being.
Meditation is a magnificent way to balance your Root Chakra. It connects you to a higher power so you feel safe. Connecting to this universal energy will bring you a sense of peace and stability. The sense organ associated with this Chakra is the sense of smell. Focusing on the tip of your nose while meditating will bring you balance.
Affirmations for your Root Chakra:
· I feel deeply rooted
· I am connected to my body
· I feel safe and secure
· I have what I need
· I trust in the goodness of life
The color red is associated with the Root Chakra. A red gemstone laid on your Chakra area while lying down will help open and align this Chakra.
Certain yoga poses help as well. For example, the knee to chest, head to knee, lotus flexion or squatting poses will help open, clear and balance your Root Chakra.
Kegel exercises where you lock and tighten the root Chakra area of your body to bring strong energy and strength to it will help unblock it and bring it into balance.
Chanting or toning sounds help as well. The mantra sound is LAM. Music brings people together. Sound creates vibration in the body. Vibrations help cells work together in synchronistic harmony. If you’ve ever experienced a drum circle or singing bowls you know exactly what I mean.
Balancing your Root Chakra is an essential building block to the balance and well being of your entire body. Our childhood experiences around safety, security and fear can wreak havoc on our adult lives.
Energy medicine/therapy such as Reiki, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT/tapping), Tai Chi, acupuncture, Qigong, etc are wonderful ways to address and release childhood memories, fears, insecurities and beliefs of the tribe that no longer serve you. For example as a woman, your tribe may dictate that you get married to a man who will “take care of you.” Well, that just doesn’t work for many women. But, for many women the thought of breaking with tradition like being married and not wanting children can be a very difficult position if you are so ingrained in tribal beliefs.
Balancing your Root Chakra, getting back in touch with your roots is where growth can begin.
How many rules or OP (other people’s) opinions are holding you back from growth in your life or your business? Change is almost unnoticeable if you stay locked in your Root Chakra issues. Freedom comes with pushing your fear banded comfort zone, making your own decisions and blazing your own path.
I’ll leave you with one of my favorite sayings…What other people think of you is none of your business.
So go forth, push through that old childhood fear and create like no one’s watching!
