Why are we so stressed out?
Did you know that by the time we are about six years old we have involuntarily programmed the negative beliefs we observe in our parents and others who influence us into our subconscious minds?
- you’re going to be fat just like the rest of the family, or
- that you’re not good enough because…fill in the blank, or
- you’re not complete until you are married.
Even if the conscious mind of you as an adult is filled with positive thoughts, we still operate from the subconscious mind 95% of the time. No wonder we are full of stress and anxiety!
The formation of beliefs
When we are children, we have no control of how this powerful part of our brains get programmed, so it’s no wonder why we struggle as adults to change the limiting personal beliefs we have about ourselves. Beliefs such as…I can’t (blank) because I’m too old, they won’t like me because (blank), I’m too (blank) for anyone to love me, I’m not creative and a very sad, but common one…I’m not worthy.
When we are not focused on the positive, these unkind thoughts we have about ourselves kick in. We don’t realize that our decisions, thoughts and how we live our lives are filtered through these negative thoughts about ourselves.
If we think of each negative thought and stressful emotion we have had throughout our lives as a stone we add to a backpack we carry every day, we are all pretty weighed down by life…and we are exhausted and we have no idea why.
While positive thoughts and affirmations are crucial to our health and happiness, our conscious mind is only in play about 5% of our time, giving it little power to be able to overcome the constant influence of our subconscious programming.
IT’S NOT YOUR FAULT.
We can indeed relieve our subconscious mind of these beliefs that are limiting us from enjoying the life of our dreams. The use of Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT or tapping) is an excellent, gentle, non judgmental way to release or reframe the beliefs and emotions that cause us daily stress, anxiety and sap our energy.
One of the many benefits is there is no need to relive trauma or traumatic memories to release them with EFT. This is one of the reasons it works so well with PTSD.
It is a very effective method of shifting limiting, self-sabotaging beliefs and reprogramming the subconscious mind.
